Since campfires aren't allowed... Bought an electric log splitter for the wood from the Ash tree my neighbor and I had cut down last year. It's brilliant. Attachments:

Dug some kit out today, lounge floor now covered with bags of kit, lamps checked, spare gas bottles purchased. Shoes & boots need reproofing. Hello! Haven't seen you for ages! *hug* Are you camping where X marks the spot this year? Hello, I'm still lurking around, booked for red park and camp this year just to make life easier. Not long now see you there X.

Good morning campers. I checked out our camping gear yesterday. I discovered a flat tyre on the camp trolley so had to patch that up. Also the essential Primus has a faulty pump washer. And a new accessory π± from Aldi...a self inflating sleeping mat. Tested out on Tiree and itβs brilliant even on hard baked rain starved grass. Hope to catch you in the Golden Lion. Listen out for my request on radio Womad about 1300 Thursday ππππ

Looking at getting yet another new tent. The little Eurohike Tamar 2 I bought last year has done a pretty good job for what it is - and especially for what it cost. Pretty roomy inside, and even though it's got a pretty low HH rating, it stood up to the rain that was lashing it without letting anything in. But, it doesn't have any useful porch space which makes it awkward getting in and out in the wet. I also found out on Monday morning that the top of the outer door is inside the bottom of the inner door, so when you lift the outer door out of the way, water can drop inside the inner tent! Apologies to my neighbours who heard my astonishment at this design flaw I've had a look online at a few tents and I am narrowing it down. I'm going to try and pop into Manchester tomorrow to have a look in Go Outdoors so I can hopefully see a few of them set up and get some better ideas.

Assuming you do not need to use your tent until next year, would it be worth waiting a few more weeks to see if there will be any Autumn sales coming up? Got to say, having a porch is essential, area to remove wet/muddy outer clothes before getting into dry living area. Also a storage area for large items (chairs, cooking gear, food, boots).

Good idea to have a browse around Go Outdoors - the discount card is worth the Β£5 if you buy there. Also, there's usually heaps of good (new and used) tents going on a popular online auction site which may be worth a browse just for the sheer selection and getting of ideas. Bloohairs looked good and dry? Good luck! Getting rain on the inside of your tent space is very astonishing - quite understandable; no apology needed, really! x

Went to Go Outdoors in Manchester today. Had a good look round, but a lot of the tents up were giant tunnels. They had some of the Vango 2 and 3 man ones which were quite nice, but the porch wasn't quite enough for what I want... Went to Blacks afterwards but they don't have any tents up in there, but I was at least able to check the weight and packed size of some of the ones I'm interested in, and even tried one in my rucksack (I took it with me for that purpose) to see how well it fitted (it did). Very helpful guy working in there spent a while going over everything. He says one of their Sheffield stores has tents on display so I might pop down there next weekend. I'm keen at the moment, as Millets/Blacks have a really good sale on at the moment, but if nothing comes from it next week then I can wait to see what else comes up in the next few months

Just had a look at the Vango Banshee Pro 3 - fab tent, designed not to be astonishing, but, as you say, no porch space.... good luck with your tent searching, Nigenet!

Planning a trip to Sheffield tomorrow to continue the hunt for a tent without astonishing design irregularities Will once again take my rucksack, and will probably also pack the sleeping bag in it so I can get an idea of how any future tent might share the space with its companions
