So, yes... I am considering upgrading from the Small Blue Kettle Of Limited Capacity. It's a damn fine kettle, but the big sticky-out handle doesn't make it the most efficient thing to pack, and - not having a lid - shaking the last few blobs of water out of it before packing it away is a long and tedious enterprise. So I'm looking for something with a lid (which would make it easier to empty, and also mean I can put stuff inside it when packing). A folding handle would be ideal too, for even easier packing. While a whistle would be nice, it is far from essential - the SBKoLC never whistled, even though it was supposed to All the ones I've seen so far, the lids don't clip into place and are very loose which seems an odd design idea to me, as it's going to drop off as you pour the water out, so one which doesn't do this would be nice. Anybody got any tips? Crikey! SBKoLC is part of our Womad Heritage - there ought to be a museum.....

Right... just ordered a new kettle. Trangia 25. The Small Blue Kettle of Limited Capacity has been a faithful Womad companion since 2008, but its design doesn't make it easy to pack into a rucksack* with everything else. Onwards, to kettles new * And talking of rucksacks, just ordered a new rucksack too! The 85 litre one I bought a couple of years ago was ok, but the straps weren't very well padded, and the diaphragm between the upper and lower compartments has more or less ripped away so it is basically just one compartment now. I'm a little nervous of getting a rucksack without ever picking it up and examining it, trying it on etc, but there is nothing in any of the local shops that I like, and this one has some good reviews (eg www.nomadtravellers.com/travel-gear/travel-backpack-highlander-discovery-85-liter-review) so I bit the bullet. It should arrive by Friday, so fingers crossed

Having said that, it may be a tad warm for the jacket.... fab t-shirts will still be worn too?

Reminds me, I must check the gaffa tape that's holding one sleeve of the jacket together! Possibly a new mug and potential new mug holding technology too!

Iβm just thinking of nail clippers. Why do toe and fingernails grow so much faster when youβre away from your clippers? They must know something. Must be the extra nutrients in the black pudding. π³
