... reminds me to ask what anyone thinks about the new songs? I don't really feel like I'm listening to a new PG album when I play them...they just sort of come and go... with similar and overlapping lyrical themes (everything is connected, there's much to do and time is limited) etc.... and then this one (Olive Tree) I just don't know what to make of - I've played it twice, almost in horror and disbelief... I really don't like it - my 2nd worst-of-PG (only beaten by Kiss of Life on PG4). Is it April 1st already?

Well Beef, I agree, maybe it's the bits and pieces approach of releasing a track a month, so the songs don't run together. A single listen of a PG album isn't normally enough to get into it, but listening to single tracks has put me off the album, which I'm sure I will buy. Wasn't too inspired by New Blood either even though my wife sings with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, I have that album but it rarely gets played. I'm thinking of what PG song should be played at my funeral, none of these are on a shortlist, this could be another thread on here.

I can think of a few if you're looking for a "humorous" cremation... Burn You Up? Walk Through the Fire? Hopefully Kiss of Life wouldn't help at this point. Or Digging in the Dirt for a burial? I Go Swimming for a send off at sea... sorry, I am being facetious... What's the betting that these Bandcamp releases turn out to be just more works-in-progress? There's usually something primal and unforgettable about a new PG album - the first tracks especially - but I just played through the eight tracks again, and they mostly do nothing for me. There's something turgid and plodding - like they've been assembled in a lab and vacuum-packed - lifeless. I heard PG say in one of the recent updates, that unlike previous PG releases, that TL, DR and MK were not involved in the earlier writing and recording stages - perhaps this is part of the difference?

Mmm White Ashes. Or with the advent of water cremation Here comes the Flood. I've chosen Solisbury Hill not because its his best but because its cheery, non PG fans will know it and it reminds me of good times in Bristol as as student. Interesting description, Vacuum Packed lifeless, quite different from The Grand Parade of Lifeless packaging then! I know TL was away with Robert Fripp on a world tour recently, but if not the holy trinity who was involved?

TL was involved (along with DR) but it sounded from what PG said in one update, that he would send them tracks that he'd been developing and they would send back a number of different guitar/bass parts and PG would use the the bits he liked best. So I meant this remote approach rather than fleshing ideas out together in the studio.

Gated reverb wouldn't have been discovered by Phil Collins using a remote approach.

Accidentally stumbled on this... an interesting and very personal perspective on being a PG fan over the decades...and now. The first sentence made me do a double-take, but it makes sense later in the piece. thequietus.com/articles/33075-peter-gabriel-live

The first sentence made me do a double-take, but it makes sense later in the piece. thequietus.com/articles/33075-peter-gabriel-liveUnusual perspective, which is always welcome. For me this quote made so much sense. "And his longstanding techno-utopianism feels like an inadequate response to current conditions (there is a long speech where he extols the possibilities of AI). Still, as the guy sitting next to me pointed out, Gabriel in 2023 is a much more inviting prospect than Roger Waters in 2023." Poor Roger Walters will end his life as a bitter and twisted ex founder of Floyd, very sad in one so talented and clever. Peter does see things differently & hence no two albums are alike. During the 2014 O2 gig he gave an overlong, and in my opinion deeply faulted, view of the 'Arab Spring' and the great promise it showed. The chaos in Syria, the Nato led interference in Libya plus the needless bloodshed in Eygpt convinces me the west needs to stop interfering: especially in oil rich nations. Travels in so many deserts have become impossible since the Arab Spring, it was a disaster. Sometimes a stable dictatorship (Libya) that is capable of being nudged towards democracy is a better bet than a fragile democracy. Like wise AI has very many facets. As the Chines saying goes, be careful what you wish for; although I do wish for a whole new PG CD - and soon.
