Just watched Wall-E- very cute and worth watching to hear PG at the end. Am I a sad person or what?

To start - my top 3 films to recommend are almost always: "Raging Bull," "Rain Man," and "K-Pax." Yeah -I know that last one is unusual - but I feel it's a terrific film about the human condition - something I'm very drawn to in drama and film and art in general. Recently? Let's see, none of these are terribly recent films: "Everybody's Fine" was goodโฆ"Lorenzo's Oil" - saw this a long time ago and again the other day - very good film. If you like horror, I'd HIGHLY recommend "The Conjuring!" A good one about the film industry (with a twist) is "Swimming With Sharks." Let's see, what elseโฆ."Beloved" was terrific. I'll think of others later. Rock on!

Actually jaredc, I prefer K-Pax out of all of those. A strange and mystifying film but wonderful.

Isn't it Duddy? Was just watching "Midnight Run" - what a laugh! Always a fun choice!

Jared I'm not sure there right or wrong favorite movies, though I suppose if Born Killers was someone's favorite movie of all time I might wonder a bit... There are movies I think were well made and worth watching and interesting, but then there are the movies I enjoy watching again and again. The latter are generally comedic in nature and sometimes also well made and interesting. I'm not sure where the 'Scary Movies' fit in, but love them anyway. I think if I were an actor I'd rather make movies like Scary Movie 1 through infinity, then serious movies. OK and a lot of the animated movies like Wall-e, Finding Nemo, Megamind, Shrek and such. I've always had a hard time deciding on a favorite movie, because I like many, but this thread has remade me think about that and I'd really have to say Star Wars. Partly for the movie, but perhaps more because of the age I was when the movie was out. About 1, no seriously, 11. Back then it was an age where the parents would show you a bus schedule and tell you if you want to see that movie over and over, you'd better get there yourself. So my best friend and I did just that much of the summer. After all, afternoon matinees were cheaper then night shows. So, yeah, I guess Star Wars would be it. Preferably in it's original and uncluttered digital effects version.

I recently saw a concert movie from this cat named peter Gabriel... it was way cool. Wish I could have seen it, but the one day in the middle of the week just didn't work for me this time. Was it at the same place? or did you get to see it a bit closer to home this time?

I recently watched la grande bellezza, it has excellent landscapes, how I wish I could have that terrace with views to the collosseum!! I think K-pax is a lighter remake of an argentine movie called hombre mirando al sudeste. www.imdb.com/title/tt0091214/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1i also saw Philomena recently, beautiful but sad story.

Resurrecting this thread, saw Galaxy Quest at the Adler Planetarium Thursday night, as part of their Reel Science program. It's a bit of a drive for me, but I love that place. They even have real scientists to talk to after the movie. I figure even if I forget half of what I learn, I still learned something.

Tonight Mrs SC and I are off to see Wild Tales,
The write up says "Six for the price of one? How to classify this Argentinian portmanteau piece that combines six radically different stories united only by outstanding cinematography, a stirring soundtrack and excellent acting. The extremely dark humour of the film comes from watching what happens when things fall apart in the most spectacular way"
We shall see :-)

Wild Tales
Well I misinterpreted "Six for the price of one. ..........combines six radically different stories..." I thought it was going to be one film with six story lines. But no, it is six different short films played back to back to make the length of one feature film. Each film showed the human joy of "loosing control" when bad things happen, it is dark humour without a doubt and often with dark humour I struggle to see what is funny about that? But with these 6 short stories I found 5 to be brilliant, funny and thought provoking and 1 to be brilliant and thought provoking but not funny. It was interesting also that despite being Argentinian the humour seemed very English.
An extremely good film, not something you would see coming out of Hollywood and definitely recommend it.
