.. running a bit late this morning and have been beavering away half watching and doing something else - in a nutshell -
Gary Moore is with Bret - fantastic recordings - some he's not happy with (skylark) but are still amazing - yellow hammer very fab. Earlier on, a section on the dawn chorus - the larger eyed birds sing and feed first; black bird, robin and thrush. I know that blackbirds feed throughout the night; they sing first just before the dawn.
Gorgeous shots of the weir and riverbank - glisteny water and light haze; sheep bleating, birds singing, soft water flowing - a bit magical. Unicorn grazing..moorhen and coots making their chirps and whistles. Gorgeous....

Golden pheasant is Gary's most rewarding recording - he did this for Tweet of the Day on Radio 4 - he did well to find one.

Bret and Gary make a lovely conversation.
Scarlet Moffat now with peregrine falcons - I love the closeup camera work I've seen on these birds - wonderful.
Female has chased male away with lots of sqwarking. Maybe it wasn't her male? Bells chiming while Gary recording - very loud at such close proximity! Fabulous shot over Salisbury - food swap one parent to other to take to chicks.
!pm Bret will be talking to Helen Roy about harlequin ladybirds and other alien species.

Sorry SS..was here for first 20 minutes before starting work at 8.30... Glorious Gary Moore..and yes a perfectionist..found it so difficult to tear myself away..had written some stuff but somehow it didn't get posted. There isn't one tomorrow is there? loved the delicate feeding of rat by Kestrel to young... also Brett likes muntjac..both to watch and enjoyed it New Year's Eve..friend used a fresh road kill..rich venison! Didn't see swallow tails yesterday..boo...too cloudy, but saw water vole..my first and amazed how big it was, also saw marsh harrier, tufted and shoveler duck..Thankyou past and present spring watches for helping me recognise them, long tail tits, some dragon flies..hawkers but difficult to ID as moving so fast, and heard cuckoos! Sorry we we keep missing each other..you away next week?

Also gorgeous red kite chicks.. possibility of another swallow egg being viable..hoping.
