Found this beautiful gem like rosemary beetle on the way to work today: Phone camera shot doesn't do justice to it's colour or shininess!

Just been on a walk to symonds yat. Can see the peregrine chick quite clearly through the scopes although parents were welll away whilst I was there.
If you saw a news story about a peregrine nest in the Forest of Dean being disturbed, it was not one near to symonds yat but in the forest itself. A criminal act wherever it was.

Quickly popping in here with the admission that I have yet to catch up with many of the Springwatches and all of the Unsprungs, but also to see whether I qualify for an honorary Unsprungness in the sense that while I haven't made any of the tv progs Cal N Del and Jambo have, I did meet Chris Packham last night at the Hawk Conservancy Trust; an astonishing evening - birds I've never seen before along with a jaw dropping robotic bird display, absolutely beautiful recreation of a passage from Kes, being stroked by vultures in flight, amongst other lovely experiences. Chris signed my copy of Fingers in the Sparkle Jar and I let him know of the unanimous rapturous standing ovation he received when he collected his surprise award from David Attenborough at the Wild Screen Panda awards last year; I wanted him to know just how much respect, appreciation and warmth there was or him that night when he may well have been too caught up in the moment to take it in. He hadn't known, and told me how that day had gone for him and how the award was truly out of the blue. We agreed T Rex are brilliant. I've been kicking myself since as I should have asked him why he thought they had such short arms - this still doesn't make sense to me, unless they were some sort of mega kangaroo. Never mind - I hope there's a next time so I can do this. The camera simply doesn't do him justice by the way. Top man.

I also admire the Chris Packham. My son, Adam, appeared on the Really Wild Show many years ago and sat next to Mr Packham when he had his mohican.

did you sneak a wee hug too? I think I did, but with words rather than arms - I respected his personal space; didn't want him to feel uncomfortable.

Did you ( Cal or Del) give him a special hug when you met him on Unsprung?

We never really got the chance

The scenery at Yellowstone looks fabulous (I remember when it used to be called Jellystone and you had to keep your eye on your pickernik baskets). Not sure if the seating on a concrete viewing platform help to maintain the image of an unspoilt American natural wonder.
