2000 for me as well digitalmonkey. My most memorable, as it was my first with Warrior and I cried when we went home because I wanted to stay there with him forever!

It's amazing how my music taste has evolved since then. I think I was discovering some folky stuff as alternative to the mainstream but I still followed the charts. Britpop had been and gone.
On the strength of my first Womad I bought Eliza Carthys Red Rice double album. A year later I delved into Imbizo from Zimbabwe and moved on from there

Yep, remember that one. Very hot. Was sad at the time as last opportunity to walk to festival. They had just started serving Gem as opposed to Courage Best. Although it may have been the year before

...think my first was 2004. I remember being allergic to the Reading dust :-( I remember Antonio Forccione and Damian Dempsey and lots and lots of new things I had never come across before :-) ...and coming home with a DRUM...my first proper musical instrument! ... the rhythms in my head didn't stop for weeks and I was totally blown away, and have never been quite the same since (in a good way)

I really miss drifting off to sleep with the sound of drumming in the background at Reading....those were the days.

Newest Newbie so far - 2008 was my first. Had little idea of who to see (before the days of meticulous planning), but was bowled over by the likes of Rachid Taha, Sean Kuti, Shantel, and have missed only one since.

I really miss drifting off to sleep with the sound of drumming in the background at Reading....those were the days. I was out there until 6am with the drummers, wonderful times. 1997 was my first Womad, I had to wait until I was free (divorced) to be able to do the nicer things in life.

There was an early one in St Austell and Mersea Island Kent prior to that its First was attached to Bath & Wells Show Shepton Mallett 1982
There were many great ones at Morecombe "All Free" The ones in Gran Canries were great , went on way too late though! Youssou N'Dour came on at 2 in the morning

I dipped my toes into Womad at the two in Morecambe sometime in the'90s ? I took the kiddies to see Fairground Attraction and the Drummers of Burundi. But the real addiction started at Rivermead in '04 onwards with Nigel Kennedy, Ritchie Havens, and daily drumming fixes at Chai Chapel. I do miss Chai Chapel. So here we are... still hooked. A few foreign ones under the belt. Highlights so numerous and lots of lovely people ππβ€οΈYes you lot and campsite cronies π
