Well, looks like webby's new location is just down from the Real Ale Bar, so a good call on moving the Thursday meetup

Having missed it so far, I'm tempted to wait till I'm there to see the flags......

Is that an Argos lorry trailer? Is someone frantically trying to put the stages together with an allen key??

Does anyone else think the site is usually a lot more complete by this time? No flags, quite empty.....😕

You're right, of course, Mr Need. This feels a very different Womad with few of us on this forum going - will miss absent friends and the opportunity to meet forum folk not yet met. Being knackered after a day's work doesn't help with the enthusiasm - usually I've been packed and sorted for at least a week by now, but have just got the bulk of the packing sorted today. I was disappointed to miss Siams skirts being lifted and feel I need to see the flags for real next Thursday rather than on screen. I think I just need to be there and let it do it's magic. .....at least I hope so....

The 1st few years (early-mid 90s - Reading and no Thursday) I would just take the Friday and Monday off work, often go out for a few drinks with friends, pack when I got home, get the bus into town clutching whatever didn't fit my rucksack in carrier bags... things gradually got more complicated over the years, until it's become more like a moon landing mission (definitely not Mrs Beef's fault) - but still via public transport. Last year was like a flashback to the old days - I got back from an overseas work trip at 1am on Thursday morning and was out the door Chippenham-bound at 10am. Still not sure how I did that. Unfortunately this year was just impossible and I'm already missing the whole thing... before it's even happened. I've only missed 2009 when my cat got ill and died a couple of days before womad and 2016 following a family bereavement... Anyway - I'm wishing you and everyone else here who is going a brilliant womad weekend SS!

If it's a bit smaller than before, that's no bad thing, and the D&B stage is relatively new in any case. If you are packing so far in advance you are taking too much stuff:) Just bring the essentials, relax and enjoy!

Anyway - I'm wishing you and everyone else here who is going a brilliant womad weekend SS! Beef, not , Need! I really must check predictive text - sorry! I'm not sure how you made that trip either - very well done! I have found it has changed too - I used to walk from my flat in Reading when Womad was at Rivermead. It took eleven hours by public transport from Shadwell doorstep to X marks the spot and I herniated my heel carrying gear. If I go on my own in future years from Saltburn, I would go by public transport again (National Express and local buses) but buy the use of a Womad camp tent and gear to minimise carry weight. Expensive, but worth it if it makes the difference between going and not....and as long as I can get the dosh together. Hope you and your toe and Mrs Beef come next year - would be nice to meet. Thanks for the lovely wishes - wish you were Womading this year too x
