Well, the song thrush is silent this morning. I can hear crows, the breeze rustling the rubbing sh bag tied to the guy rope, the fall of flip-flops, sleeping bag zips, teaspoons rattling in breakfast mugs, a child crying and a neighbour chatting away apparently to herself - no responses from anyone..

Looks sunny, but haven't ventured out the tent yet, so don't know how warm it is.
Natural highlight for yesterday - massive emperor dragonfly flying long and low over the seated audience for Marja Mortensen........fabulous!
Musical highlight - Dakhabrakha. Salif Keita also fab to hear.
Food highlight - another veggie mezze - this time a Persian one, not a Greek one, as yesterday.
Talk highlight - Deep Ocean - Blue Planet submersible journey 5k deep
Del will relate another highlight of the day for you
Another six straight hours sleep - wonderful!
The covered dining room on the arena is a great addition - full use being made of it.
Was nice to enjoy a slightly overcast day - enough of the full on glare of the sun.

Another great day yesterday, although perhaps not as sparkling as Friday, something I put down entirely to being personally knackered.
Ustad Saami's one hour piece leading to midnight was a real musical highlight.
Whenever I see DakhaBrakha I think 'no other Ukrainian has ever worn a hat like that', and then I think 'fake'. I prefer traditional music that is based on actual tradition. Appreciate I am probably a minority of one, and they definitely got the best reception of the festival'so far.
Who on earth thought that Anna Calvi would make a good Saturday night headliner? I felt sorry for her.

I think DakhaBrakha would appreciate your possibly unique position olirow... sorry to hear about Anna Calvi - would have been one of my must-sees...

Olirow, I think you have to acccept the fact that DakhaBrakha don't do 'authentic' folk music, and don't claim to!
It was a shame you weren't at their Taste the Worl session, where they answered questions on their take on Ukranian music, and their costumes. Plus, the three women sang some traditional Ukranian folk songs with beautiful harmonies, which you may have enjoyed. And without the hats!
As for Anna Calvi, I have to agree with you there. Definitely not a headliner. It was obvious from the size of the audience and the many who drifted away before the end.

Agree about Anna Calvi, she is a great musician, songwriter and performer but doubt she has ever headlined or done a longer than 70 minute set elsewhere - hence she finished very early. She does not interact with the crowd which is also what you need for a headliner (compare with Nadine Shah who was brilliant in the Siam earlier). An earlier slot (perhaps in the Siam) would have been better. Very poor choice by WOMAD and wonder why they slipped up on this one.
