Download and Latitude are run by Live Nation; the British Grand Prix run by Formula 1. All selected as ERP test events. Live Nation and Formula 1 are owned by Liberty Media, huge US owned corporation (8bn US Dollar revenue). It stinks.

I haven't looked at this for ages but wanted to find out what the feelings of this group were. I think it is significant that the events that are going ahead or have gained test status are sponsored by large organisations, not independents such as Womad. Latitude is also even more middle class than Womad and much more likely to attract Conservative voters! Odd choice as Melvin who runs Latitude set up The socialist Beer Co. about 30 years ago. 'Test Status' if they were really doing this it would have been done in May at the early festivals so the ones from June onward could take place given good results. To make a huge festival a 'test' in late July is meaningless as festivals suddenly get the go ahead in August by which time most of not all will have been killed off.
They can say they did 'tests' 'to support the events industry'. YET AGAIN: TOO LITTLE TOO LATE.
Just because something has ‘socialist’ in its name does not necessarily mean they have true socialist values, think we learnt that lesson in the 1930’s.

“No substantial outbreaks” of Covid-19 were identified following any of the first phase of mass test events, with 28 cases recorded among the 58,000 people who attended, the Government’s delayed Events Research Programme report has found. So frustrating this has been released now, with no guidance or support for festivals, now too late for Womad.

Every time I get on a train it's always youngsters (late teens, early 20s) sitting there chatting without masks... they are clearly now the main demographic for transmission, if not serious illness. This is not the time to be a silly, selfish twat. Someone needs to tell them... and you, Matt Hancock

As you point out Beef its the young on transport not wearing masks. The Indian Variant is not only more transmissible it is better at avoiding the vaccine and is adversely affecting more young people. If they factor these issues into events in isolation, none will be taking place. However, factor in either proof of vaccination/and or lateral flow, all aspects are outside- no big tents and no crowding at the front of each performer, then Womad becomes as safe as reasonably practicable. As safe as all the other events already permitted. Annoying they have chosen Festival Republic as a test company instead of Womad although FR will put every effort into wanting to prove it is safe as they run Leeds, Reading and Latitude; they also have input into the physical organisation at Glastonbury. Lets have it coming down to public health and not politics, may be that’s a pious hope given the government dithering on closing travel corridors. This is a war and the government seem to be lacking competent waroom staff.

Sad... frustrating... kind of unsurprising...
Just now in the local supermarket I saw a couple of late teen/early twenties girls without masks buying booze for the night at the check out next to me. I asked twice "why aren't you wearing a mask?" before one of them said "oh, we dropped them"... so I asked "aren't you buying some more then?" to which they answered "I don't know where to buy them..." The checkout guy pointed out where they were on the shelf and a couple of older women joined in... A few minutes later as I walked out I could see the girls in a car with some blokes giving me a threatening look... jeez...the fucking mentality... the fuckwits are always there, but just once in a lifetime you'd think... they'd think... I'd think... foolishly

Critical thinking, or rather the complete lack of it is what you experianced. It should be taught in every school as a life skill so they or even their pals could see what fuckwits they look like.

I've been in Spain for the past few days. Every single person wears a mask outdoors, even rebellious looking teens and alcoholic down and outs. It is just not an issue. It is extraordinary how the UK has become full of such selfish ignorant people, quite hard to understand really.
Today I fly to Moldova, it will be interesting to see how things work there.
As for Womad, the government will clearly not underwrite the festival, and the language used by Smith suggests he knows this. I think we all need to start thinking about a proper Womad in 2022.

the selfish Scotland fan who travel to London, and held mass gathering in pubic spaces ignoring all COVID19 guidance for the same of game of football have lead to the biggest spike of COVID19 case reported i Scotland and we have read many account of coach loads these idiots all testing positive.
While WOMAD and other festival will be regulated the risks are all to real. Sadly it only take a few selfish people to attend a festival and not take a flow test or even lie about a positive test result for it all to go wrong.

Barring some firecracking announcement from UK government tomorrow I'm resigned to no Womad in 2021.

I can't handle these false hopes anymore - repeated disappointments, all the stupid people - poodle politicians and every non-vaxxing, non-mask-wearing moron... wake me up in a year or two... hopefully a better-than-before normality will be waiting for us... in the meantime the only blessings have been to be at home with my family and to have not been in the daily office prison for a year and a bit... some people say they miss that shit...feels like I've watched that box set my whole life... jeez.
