Several festials now confirming they'll go ahead and announcing line-ups, including Latitude which I think is on the same weekend as Womad.
Womad have issued a carefully worded statement 'At WOMAD, we are exploring the options following the Government's Road Map release and what it means for our festival. We are in conversation with our friends, partners and the authorities to help us make the best and safest decision we can regarding WOMAD 2021! We will make a further announcement as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience, understanding and continued support'
Just wondering if there will be a pared-down festival, with limited numbers and mainly home-grown acts. I think I would go for that over a complete cancellation. I'm desperate for some live music!

There is little hope for us here in Ireland, but I am watching the return of festivals debate with interest. Seems Australia is the place to be for now. Womadelaide is set to go ahead, albeit modified, and this is a livestream from 'Summer Salt', a festival that took place last weekend. Stream includes John Butler and the Cat Empire - great acts. The audience are seated, or dancing in front of their seats, but it looks like good fun and not too restrictive (stream only available until tomorrow).

Given the limited number who would be allowed to attend would it be viable to run a WOMAD in the UK and who would play?

Going to be difficult to justify a world festival if majority of performers are UK based and cannot see any alternative. Other festival announcements seem to be for slightly smaller in size or for August weekends. Hate to say it but I am not optimistic of a Womad 21 and may be best all round to put back to 2022.
Still hoping though with fingers permanently crossed.

Probably worth reading twice though:) Any clues in the wording? 'Safest decision' suggests it won't happen to me. Hope that's wrong...

Did not click that Rendrags had already posted it.

The final say will be with the Director of Public Health for Wiltshire. That will be based on several factors most notably the current state of the nation. Womad will carry out the D of PH wishes but will they risk capital outlay only to risk having the event cancelled at short notice by the D of PH as happened at Southampton Boat Show. Womad has become quite risk adverse these last few years combined with the reduction of the world aspect this year I wonder. We all know hands face space, but as a PH specialist there is another vital one usually missed out- ventilate, diluting the viral load to a non infectious level is so important. One thing I can sure of, if Womad goes ahead people will go, including me, assuming masks are not required outside. Will I go into the middle of the Siam and sing and dance in a crowd even with powerful fans at the front so big they make long hair move?- no I won't. Read Standing Stone's reasons for not going in the Facebook Womad community page. Download is postponed but Boomtown is on; albeit the profle is aged mostly under 30.

Not mentioned in the email, or on the website, but for anyone who has a 2020 ticket rolled over to this year, and doesn't feel ready or able to go this year, they are offering to rollover again to 2022 or refund.

We are super excited to announce tickets for WOMAD 2021 are ON SALE NOW!
The festival will go ahead from 22-25 July 2021 in line with the Government road map which aims to remove all social distancing restrictions by 21st June 2021.
Inevitably there will be some changes to the festival and we will be adapting to changing conditions to make WOMAD happen this year, with no doubt that WOMAD 2021 will be, as always a glorious celebration of the global community, its music, arts, culture and food.
We will continue to liase with the licensing and Public Health authorities to understand and implement the measures required for the festival to take place safely and for the wider community to feel totally comfortable. A 'WOMAD Roadmap 2021' is in development and will continue to be updated as those decisions are made. Some of these will include:
Line-up: International travel to and from the UK is currently restricted. Fortunately, the UK has a rich and culturally diverse artistic community and WOMAD will celebrate this diversity with a line-up of mainly UK based artists reflecting musical and artistic traditions from all over the world. The UK artists will be announced on 12 April. But, when restrictions on international travel are lifted, organisers hope to build on this foundation by adding international artists to the line-up around the 17 May, many of whom have already committed to performing at WOMAD 2021 if international travel allows. Increased Space: We are redesigning aspects of the site to increase the space in the campsite and the arena so people have as much space as they need. Capacity: Capacity is continually under review. In the first instance tickets will be sold in batches with additional batches added as the consultation proceeds. The final capacity will be based on consultation and reflect the increased space available in the site and the licensing guidelines. Home Testing: We are discussing the possibility of following the schools' model and the upcoming DCMS test events of offering home-based Lateral Flow Tests both before and after the festival. Depending on the position of the Public Health Authorities these may be sold at cost price. Festival goers who have a ticket and test positive will be refunded in full or have their ticket rolled over to 2022.
