We arrived just before 08.00 on Thursday morning, got the the ticket exchange at 08.05 and walked into festival camping a few minutes later! The last 3 years seemed to evaporate. Cal is still struggling post covid but was able to manage a few hours each day walking around the site and catching the bands she wanted to see, the rest of the time she was happy to listen to the music from our tent. Del was worried about burn out but the more the weekend went on the more energy he seemed to have, he even managed a late night boogie in Molly's bar on Sunday night. As for highlights there were so many it's hard to list them all however the stand out was BCUC, Del managed to get doon the front and loon danced for the whole hour!!! Del was also picked out by the singer during one of his monologs to the crowd, "you with the old man white man's beard, do you still have dreams?". Topping it all off was a picture tweeted by one of the pit photographers. ย Fabulous photo Del โค๏ธ

there was one low moment over the weekend, on Thursday evening Del discovered his sporran, belt and belt pouch had been left behind in our Airbnb...... So at 07.00 on Friday morning Del left the site to make the 90 minute round trip to collect his sporran etc, luckily he was able to listen to Radio WOMAD for almost all of the journey so he was able to stay in a WOMAD bubble. The radio signal was incredibly good, was listening whilst on the M4, all the way until passed the Bath turn off and approaching Bristol.

There was sufficient light rain overnight to discover 4 further leaks in my soon to be disposed of tent. Shame about the state of the toilets sat. evening into Sunday morning, not expected T surfing at Womad. Other wise fine. That was the weird thing Sunday when I went back to use the porta loos one more time. The ones closer to the Red lot were really full. The ones about 80 meters away not overfull at all. Definitely worth the slightly extra walk. The glamping flush loos also clogged up Friday night. They had someone there to ensure it worked properly the rest of the weekend. I went out to the porta loos not far from the glamping entrance and used those instead. Others were still using the overflowed clogged up loos, I still cannot fathom why?

I used the glamping flush loos for emptying my overnight pee container, but would not have been comfy joining the lengthy morning queues. I treated myself to a la di la loo wristband this year for the pure joy of a sink and lovely soaps and moisturisers to wash my hands - something I have got into the habit of doing throughout the day whether with a loo visit or not.... anything to make sure I keep my parents free from catching anything from me! I think it was worth it and may do again next year..... I have started packing and have booked my pre and post Womad accommodation as it made a huge difference to have a breather close by either side of Womad. I am hoping that the Womad Camp is able to pretty much maintain prices too - again, this worked well for me, saving weight to lug around and the energy spend on setting up camp. This year, it was just a matter of putting bunting on the tent! This all was far removed from my previous Womad experiences, and nothing I thought I would ever be doing, but was a great fit for me and meant that I could relax if my energy crashed and was simple enough to manage with a pea souper brain! Here's to next year ...... Zenrider, I think it may be wise to get your leave request in for Womad next year....it gets under your skin ...

Finally getting round to normality after a hectic time with our 6 month grandson Theo, who's being staying with us for the past few weeks, and who came to Womad on a couple of days with his Mum and Dad and proud grandparents! Here's the little fella enjoying the Arboretrum:
As well as being able to enjoy his company, it was great to be back at Womad and so good to be there after such a long absence.
Highlights - so many of them but here's a few:
- meeting up with forum friends on Thursday evening, and bumping into several over the course of the weekend. Great to meet Zenrider! - Taste the World, I managed to get to some this year. ADG7 really entertaining, and I got to sample their delicious pancakes!
- Some great music, ADG7, Bab L'Bluz, Flaming Lips, Cimafunk, Son Rompe Pera to name a few - Peter Gabriel joining Angelique Kidjo onstage
I was unsure how I'd manage to stay the course over the weekend, as I'm getting on a bit now and am prone to overdo things by rushing from one stage to another, whilst trying to fit in loo stops(more frequent these days!), eating and drinking, but I was pleasantly surprised. On Sunday evening I watched Lianne La Havas for a while, but thought her a bit dull so wandered off for a bit of high energy stuff from Onipa in the D&B tent. Maybe it was the effect of eating two large bananas in quick succession!
I thought the loos were OK and well maintained, though I didn't experience the campsite ones or the compost loos. A few more urinals would have been appreciated.
The food prices weren't as high as I thought they might have been - most things around a tenner. And ยฃ5.50 for a pint not bad, though I can't remember how it compares to 2019!
Overall I had a bloody good time. Bring on Womad 2023!

Did anyone else manage to find the full moon? Finally found it on Sunday evening, when you left the arboretum, you had to follow the coloured lights past glamping until you reached a wooded area. Quite an adventure and wish had discovered earlier. Looks like this is an open area worth exploring next year

It's not labeled, but it's there. ๐ And it had it's own bar.

Just realized I missed a connection. Abel Selaocoe played with the band Kabantu the year I went to the Shetland Folk Festival. Sorry I missed him, but glad I caught a little bit on YouTube.

It does, but sadly is not in the budget to be an annual thing for me. Will have to live vicariously through the rest of you for at least a few years. Don't blame you for using the La Di Da Loos. There were a few times I just went to the porta loos just outside the Glamping, instead of queuing for the flush loos. Wasn't a bad choice, never found those to be overflowing or not clean. I took a home Covid test before my flight. Wasn't required, but seemed the thing to do. Not just for flying, but for the person picking me up after the flight. Wore a KN95 mask through the airport and boarding. Wore one exiting plane and airport. Just seems to make sense, even if others don't think so. It's just too bad I didn't mow the lawn right away when I got home, but it wasn't supposed to rain today. Darn weather liars. At least, the weather behaved for WOMAD.
