Seriously, they are a late summer thing right? So why so many of the persistent little buggers? What do they know? How can WOMAD let this happen?

They always seem particularly bad around the arboretum and anywhere near cider... once one landed on a sandwich I was eating a few Womads ago... and I didn't see it... I sure felt it though... spiciest tuna sandwich I ever had... thank heavens for the St John's Ambulance crew!

I had One wasp that was dedicated to me, tremedous dedication, everytime I arrived in the arboretum, he was there, I called him Doris. Had to wave him away a few times but I did not eat him.

A wasp shared my sandwich once, I bit on it twice and it felt like a needle going through my tongue. I had jaw and ear ache for about 4 hours, then it went away. Blooming things!

When my boys were young they kicked their football into a bush in the garden. They came and got me as even with a stick they couldnβt get it out. They handed me the stick and showed me where the football was, you could just see bits of the ball in the bush, I bashed at it and was mobbed by angry wasps!! Sometimes itβs tough being a Dad, but the wicked humour of a child will have been the same since we came down from the trees and always will be. The boys thought that it was a great laugh getting Dad to bash a wasps nest, I only fell for that prank once ππ€£

I would have made them sit down and listen to Perry Como music all afternoon. It was a few weeks before I discovered that there was no ball and never had been a ball in the bush ππ€£π ... that takes it to a whole new level sc... I guess you could only laugh? Kind of reminds me of me and my brothers' tricks, but I think we were probably too wary of wasps to try that...

Got home washing the dust off before the hosepipe ban and Doris had called a pal and I was met with a huge hornet called Morris settled on my car, luckily rather dozy in the heat, she said she had flown the Atlantic. I thought Crikey; Atlantic Morris set.
