Maybe next year Beef? During Womad last year, a Whatsapp group was set up for communication by attendees during the festival, and the group has continued to exist as a means of communication on things related to Womad. Some of us, e.g Zenrider, Cal and Del, myself, have continued to post to both this forum and the Whatsapp group. Hopefully Standing Stone and SC they will return to this forum as Womad draws nearer.
Thanks rendrags - next year would be the 30th anniversary since my first Womad in 1994... so really wouldn't want to miss it. I understand that people now have a wide variety of ways of communicating, but I just feel sad that this place has gradually become tumble weed central... and it's a vicious circle, the fewer who post here, the fewer people will want to post here... this used to be a great home-from-home for everyone who was kicked off the original Womad forum when it shut down about 7 years ago. It used to be buzzing here in the weeks before Womad...now I just get depressed to see so often "last post: beef' against almost every thread... bloody beef... and bloody beef isn't even going. Beef, I really hope you can make it next year. I've been trying to figure out if I could manage it again next year. I would love a WOMAD 42 shirt, as a Hitch Hiker's Guide fan.

Sorry not posted so much on the forum recently, since retirement I find I have much less time available as just sooooo busy 🤪 That is not to say I am any less excited about Womad being less than three weeks away and sure there will be much more discussion over the couple of months 😀 congratulations on your new found freedom mikey! 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀

Things move on Deserttraveller. Maybe what forum members there may be are put off by predictive text threads and slimming threads 🤣 and the countdown which has pehaps become passe. I see on fb Womad community there’s a start up of a thing called ‘mike’ ??🤔 Perhaps the whatsapp group fulfils the same need as the forum used to ? In the meantime I’m looking forward to the build, webby and my 15th womad at CP if I have counted correctly. Free hugs to all forum nerds if you see me. X As, long as Pro boards hosts this forum it will be here. Even if only a few of us use it. Sadly, most of the new accounts have been largely spam, or possibly plain old scam accounts. Posting once, with spam link. Or claiming to need to buy, or sell WOMAD tickets (which I recommend not doing on this forum, but through official WOMAD sites), but they never join any conversations. I would not recommend downloading anything from anyone you don't actually know ever. It may look like a download for music, but end up being something that steals all your information off you computer or cellphone or such. Really looking forward to everyone's WOMAD pictures and stories. Hoping Webby behaves itself better this year, so you all can do the WOMAD wave Thursday evening. Good advice there, ie. Don’t trust anyone, including here with ‘AI’ and other threats becoming more sophisticated. A recent news story involves Martin Lewis, the money saving expert and phenomenal help for people facing debt, has been caught on-line promoting an investment Plan which could be a scam. Turns out it is a deep fake representation of ML which he now has to go around explaining that it is nothing to do with him. These scams are only going to more preval3nt.

It's annoying that the start times for each artist aren't available on the website or on the Womad app. Looks like they're 'hidden' on the app, and you can only get at them by adding each one to your schedule, then viewing them in 'My Favourites' as a timetable in grid view. Not sure why Womad have done this - hopefully they'll update the website and app with a proper timetable soon. I like to put together my own spreadsheet and not rely on the app!

RE tickets, this is from the Madwoman, I think it means the Womad site! "Your tickets will be sent via email 7 days before the event, please email info@womad.org if you do not receive them. Please ONLY purchase WOMAD Festival tickets through the WOMAD website at womad.co.uk as we cannot guarantee entry with tickets purchased elsewhere. There is an abundance of fraudulent ticket selling online this year and scammers are targeting our social media pages, posting about tickets for sale. PLEASE do not buy tickets over social media but only via the WOMAD website to ensure you have a genuine WOMAD Festival ticket." 🎫
Sad really as previously I have bought tickets using this forum, but scammers are everywhere. So those who genuinely cant go have to use a scalpers site like Stub Hub and with the high fees added on its cheaper to buy a ticket from the Womad site

Bit of info I wanted to share. A few weeks ago my wife and I went to the Love Supreme Festival, we took a bundle of cash with us, as traditionally festivals were a cash based business. However, when we arrived it was difficult to use cash and if we had looked their website it actually states that they are working towards being a cash free festival. With this in mind I've just looked at Womad's FAQ on Cash, and they state:
"Traders and bars at WOMAD 2023 will be accepting cards as the main method payment. However, we there are ATMs on site, and we recommend bringing some cash with you on to site in case you need it. "
We won't be taking a bundle of cash again 👍

Top tip sc! I remember what a nightmare it used to be trying to figure out how much cash to take and then worrying about losing it/running out all weekend...

Useful to know, thank you…we were just wondering if WOMAD had gone cashless. It’s a few years since we’ve been and it was always a challenge to work out how much to bring…not too little, not too much…and how to keep it safe over the weekend. So cards with a small amount of emergency cash it is!

You could even link a credit card to your wrist band, with a pin number as an option. I didn't. Everyone wanted a tip too. Tipping has gotten out of control in the States.

Hi everyone- we have had one drop out from our group (unfortunate end of relationship) so we have a spare 4 day ticket. If anyone on here could use it or knows someone who can’t afford to go then they are welcome to have it?

Did anyone mention Radio 3's coverage? Unfortunately not as comprehensive as it used to be (https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/media/2022/jan/18/bbc-licence-fee-freeze-funding-gap-programmes-services-tim-davie) but still there... despite the Tory obsession with undermining the BBC... www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001p2b5
