Seeing.’Mama’s Broke’ a Canadian folk duo at Abergavenny tonight. Music described as a bleak landscape (imagine if they had the music for either of the ‘Lighthouse’ films). Looking forward to seeing/hearing something totally different.

After starting the year with Steve Hackett, it seems I'm on a Blues theme.
Tentatively, Sunday at the Chicago Blues Fest next Sunday. Sunday at Taste of Westmont for their Blues Jam and tributes to Muddy Waters and his Son Mojo Waters who passed way too soon. Followed with the mini Blues Fest on the Sunday of Catfish Days at the local for me Rustic Inn, which seems to be a week early this year. Which works out, because the next weekend is WOMAD!
Had kind of hoped to make it to the ABBA Arena, but not sure it really works with my schedule, as it would have to be the Monday after WOMAD and not sure I'll have the energy for it. Too bad they don't have shows on the Wednesday or even Tuesday before WOMAD, but such are things, and once again I am reminded that the world does not revolve around me.

I'm at the Chicago Blues Fest and just found out I can share it with you.
OK, most of you have probably gone to bed, but you can always watch it tomorrow. 🤓

I went to Strawberry Fair in Cambridge last Saturday. A free festival, multiple stages, decent food outlets, what's not to like? Well actually, the music was awful, mostly locally based bands, and I can't find anything positive to say about any of them! Perhaps it's me...

Next gig is - once again - tonight. Off to see Yes at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. Rescheduled twice from June 2020. Should be a great show. Still seats left if anyone's in the neighbourhood www.bridgewater-hall.co.uk/whats-on/yes-030620/

Went to the first day of the Black Deer festival today. It's an Americana music festival local to me, and has quite a nice vibe. They have managed to stretch the definition of Americana to include James (and Jake Bugg) which works for me because James are a superb live band, one of the best I have ever seen. I only ventured out in to the sun/heat in the evening, so the other bands/singers I saw were in a tent. All of them (Caroline Spence, William the Conqueror, Emily Barker and Israel Nash) were worth listening to, even if the musical style wasn't quite my cup of tea. I hope they keep the festival going, there aren't too many cowboy types in Tunbridge Wells, so it wasn't over busy (again fine by me).
Edit: I went to day 3 as well, the Sunday, having fortunately avoided thunderbolts and lightning on the Saturday. Sunday was also fun, much cooler, the music was enjoyable without being fantastic, Tunbridge Wells' Noble Jack's were excellent, Irish Mythen sang Maria and made me cry again, Van Morrison glowered at the audience in his usual way, and it seemed to be all over. But... the final act, in a smaller tent, who I didn't even know were playing was... Talisk. They started their set to a handful of people with the line 'Never in a million years did we think we would ever play at an Americana festival' and then...OMG, an explosion of music, the room came alive, everyone was singing and dancing, IT FELT JUST LIKE WOMAD! It's been three f**king years people! This is what we have been missing!!

Del should be going to see the blues pills on Tuesday Del made it to the Blues Pills, they were excellent but he left feeling short changed when the band was limited to 1 hour slot due to the venue's curfew rules. It was the first time he has even seen a headline act not come back for an encore at a non festival gig.

Just booked to see Suzanne Vega next February. I saw her tweet a link to the tour, scanned through the dates, saw Manchester Bridgewater Hall so quickly went to book a seat there... then looked through the rest of the tour dates and saw that she's playing Sunny Buxton Opera House a few days before the Manchester gig! So, booked a ticket for that and phoned the Bridgewater Hall to see if they could refund the ticket I'd literally just bought from them, which they said they would do myticket.co.uk/artists/suzanne-vega-2023

Can you point me in the direction of the show Mikey - looked at her recent shows on BBC Sounds and don't see Dakhbrakha listed...? All I can find is what was broadcast live right at the end of Cerys Matthews’ show on Sunday. Perhaps was expecting too much to think there might have been any more made available 🙁
