the BBC seem to be reducing Who out put which is a shame, we don't think it because of the female doctor more to do with they are getting board with it I think it's more of how they do things with TV these days. Split seasons for some shows, meaning they will count two seasons in a year. Or, do half of what used to be a whole season and play reruns during holidays and major sporting events, before finishing the season. Most TV shows only air about half new shows compared to what they used to. Don't even get me started on the show to commercial ratio. Which is why I don't really watch much TV anymore. That and sadly many of the commercials are better than the beat to death formats of most shows. That said, looking forward to catching up on the latest episode of Dr Who. As Dr Who is a BBC production we do not get adverts during the show...is this different in the US when aired by a commercial American partner? long may the advert free BBC continue although I suspect the future may be changing as the BBC needs to seek sources of funding to make up for Government reluctance to increase licence fee, impact of funding free licences for the elderly (previously funded by the government) and funding world service radio broadcasts (also previously funded by the government).

I've always assumed Doctor Who had a running time of around 43 (and now 50) minutes to leave room for other broadcasters to add adverts and so make it easier to sell on the world market. I could be wrong though

Yes, there are commercials. Too many commercials. Since I don't watch during regular program times, I'm not sure ow long the time slot is.

The first half not so bad, but by the end the commercials seemed to be longer than the show. Especially the last half hour. Took an hour and a half to watch. Other than that, fun episode, but really wish the Dalek could have exterminated the commercials.

BBC funding seems to be under government scrutiny and resources getting tighter, licence fee now has to cover world service broadcasts and free licences for over 75’s (previously funded by the government). It might only be a matter of time before the BBC has to consider whether to lower production quality or seek alternative funding streams including advertising revenue.

It might only be a matter of time before the BBC has to consider whether to lower production quality or seek alternative funding streams including advertising revenue. 30 minutes of commercials, especially with an increased frequency at the end of the show made for hard to follow the show viewing. They even had a prolonged one featuring a new series that they are trying to push, which will feature a commentary trying to make animal behavior seem more like human motivations. Ugh. Which is why I don't watch too many regular TV shows with commercials anymore. In a sense it has backfired when I do, as I often wonder what is wrong with a product to require so many commercials to sell it? What's good is realizing you weren't going mad after all when you finally buy the DVD and see the scenes that you swore you remembered, but never saw when they were cut out to fit the original half hour, or one hour format to enable more commercials to be added. Amazing what one can come up with from a search. Meaning, someone else did the math for me. These are averages, so apparently there are some shows may have an even less favorable commercial to show ratio. www.waynesthisandthat.com/commerciallength.htm

Watched Dr Who last night - all the way through without falling sleep - liked it - good to see this Doctor Who series' reinvented dalek. Still too many companions for me - Doctor is lonelier in a crowd, maybe. Anyway, looking forward to next year's!

Getting fed up with the politically correct BBC stories, Dr Who is teaching us all about Rosa Parkes/ racism, another on Partition of India. The latest Silent Witness was about the harm drugs do interlaced with a plot and the week before we were 'educated' about transgender.
Not impressed I want proper plot lines for the new Doc.
