At least with the sensors they will know when it's fallen.

OK valves readjusted. Rookie mistake with only a 50/50 chance of getting the wrong position to adjust the valves. Just my luck, huh. Guarantee I won't make that mistake again. Will take it to the dealer for the next service, because I'll let them adjust the carburetor, which after adjusting the valves seems to be running a bit rich. After the 1,000 mile service, full services don't come as frequently. At least I had them too open and not too closed. That would have been a far worse mistake.

Many many years ago (1982 I think) I made a big mistake with the valve clearance. I was on my way to an event called The Dragon Rally, (1st weekend of February) in Snowdonia (Wales). I was going with my then girlfriend. She had a Honda 125 (which died in London on the journey) so we temporarily abandoned her bike and we doubled up on my Sanglas 400F. The Sanglas was notorious for burning out the exhaust value, so I had a spare. By the time we got to Telford (Welsh borders) the exhaust valve was shot, no power but VERY impressive jets of flame from the exhaust We made camp on some public land opposite to a pub that introduced us to the delights of Theakston's Old Peculiar I removed the head and old exhaust valve and ground in the new one, feeling very pleased with myself I bolted on the head and jumped to the kick start. Boy it had huge compression, it had never been this hard to turn over! I put my full weight on the kickstart and pushed down with all my might. There was a loud "Crack", hmmmm I thought, that doesn't sound good. Pulled the bike apart again, in my haste I hadn't checked the tappets, if I had I would have spotted something was badly wrong! When I had reassembled the head after grinding in the exhaust valve, I had then reinserted the pushrods, BUT, on the bottom on both was a little ball socket that had fallen off one and was resting on top of it's matching half at the bottom, the result was that the pushrod was about 1/4 inch too high and one of the valves was constantly open in the head, I then tried to turn the engine over which meant the valves were trying to push through each other (I mistook that for "mighty good compression"). Result two bent valves On the plus side we spent 3 splendid evenings in the pub before calling the recovery service to take us home

Oh bit of good news, I think I mentioned it some months ago, but back in June a good friend of about 30+ years was involved in a very very bad bike accident, where an old man with Dementia (we think) pulled out in front of him. Pretty much everything was smashed and he had CPR at the scene, it all looked very bleak. But from last week he has been allowed to put his full weight on his legs Still got a long way to go (particularly with the brain damage, but that is slowly fixing itself), but quite a milestone reached all good

Glad to hear your friend is recovering, if a bit slowly. Still working on finding some protective pants that fit. Finding middle-age woman is not a fit they are making. I do now now have a modular helmet, that I am really liking. Especially with cooler weather. Nearly got frostbite yesterday, fingers. Took a chance on the weather... Let's just say I should have switched to the warmer gloves a little sooner. Good thing I stopped at a store for a bit. Probably should get some hand guards to help block the wind too.

I was going to say "Bit of practice and I'm sure you could do that " But I understand that over your side of the pond there is a culture of suing for damages....... so I won't say that and instead suggest investing in a winch. I am sure that guys suspension don't last that long very impressive though

I was going to say "Bit of practice and I'm sure you could do that " But I understand that over your side of the pond there is a culture of suing for damages....... so I won't say that and instead suggest investing in a winch. I am sure that guys suspension don't last that long very impressive though Yes far too many lawyers. I wouldn't worry about the trucks suspension or bed. That's a big 4X4, if it can't handle that, it better never leave the highway. He's also landing on a box above the bed and not actually flipping onto the bed of the truck itself. Probably made something to allow for secure storage under the bike than just packing around it. That said, I hope that's not how he loads it every time, because some weather factors would not help. Also, depending on how that box is built on the truck, that might not be able to handle repeat stress like that landing. However the added height of that box would make conventional loading a bit trickier. All that said, it's still pretty cool he can do that!
