Ah, but something tells me that is not the hardest thing he's done to that bike.

Yes, well.... er, if she sat closer to the tank she'd be able to get more of her feet on the ground. A good pair of boots wouldn't hurt either. Yep its only a 125 but it has no brakes that got to be exciting - Can someone tell that bint to get off that bike

Yes that is his behind mine but that is his current 125 until he passes. I am going with 6 others, (5 bikes), the itinerary is: 4th June β Home to Forbach (Germany) 5th June β Foreach to a Hotel near Bolzano Italy. We will be staying there from 5 June to 11 June 6 June β Stelvio Pass 7 June β Aprica Pass and Fluella Pass β may well not do this but change for something else. 8 June β San Boldo Pass 9 June β Grossglockner Pass 10 June - Timmelsjoch Pass 11 June to Forbach 12 June Forbach to home Should be awesome

Thanks for posting Passo Pennes, S.C. - just enjoyed watching your journey -lovley crisp blue skies as you break out of the tree line onto the top - what a view! Very sorry to hear about your friend. Hope his biking days aren't over and you'll be able to make plans for the future. Excellent achievement on the Advanced Driving there Zenrider, enjoy your new bike - how fab is that! Roadtrips to be planned - exciting! Thanks SS, I very much doubt if he'll ever get back on a bike and even if he wanted to it would be too cruel a thing to inflict on his wife and children. There are things in life that you make you think "Well thank God I got away with that, time to do something else" it makes you appreciate what you almost lost. I certainly would not want to see him on a bike again, yes I know that sounds hypocritical, but I'm just being human. ZenRider, a while back, I mentioned that a friend of mine had been in a horrible bike crash. Well he was featured in this weeks episode of "24 Hours in A&E" which is a "fly on the wall" TV programme in a Hospital. www.channel4.com/programmes/24-hours-in-ae/on-demand/63975-002

Show not playing for me. I get it, sort of. I've had some bad wrecks thrown off horses, but my personality just wouldn't let me quit riding. Though I don't exactly volunteer to ride other people's problem ponies anymore either. Still don't understand the people that thought I should stop riding when Christopher Reeve broke his neck. I had already been riding longer then him and sometimes, things just happen. Just bad dumb luck he landed just wrong. Even he said, if he could get out of that chair he'd ride horses again. Some things are hard to give up. Though I do understand your friend thinking maybe it's time for a different hobby. Actually, when I bought my little biked I was joking that I was getting into something safer with motorcycles. Which actually, is more true than not. However, one reason I've kinda stuck with lower cc bikes, not that they can't go fast enough to get you in trouble, not to the same extent the really big and torqued bikes can get you in. Not sure I'd ever get anything over a 650cc. I'm not lugging lots of gear cross country and rarely ride two up. Not very likely to ride two up with lots of gear or race for that matter. I'm too old for something fast and heavy. Beyond that, when I ride I tend to be hyper alert to traffic and pretty much expect other drivers (and some other motorcyclists) to do stupid things. Must say most of my riding is not in traffic heavy areas. Last summer, aside from a few casual rides and some trail around the barn, I used it mostly to run to the barn and do errands that I didn't need a lot of cargo space for. Now that she's broken in, probably do that a lot more next summer, especially at 80mpg (better with imperial gallons).

OK, all that said, was on a poker run (charity bike thing) took a diversion as a guy on a Triumph thought his speedometer might have been off. I knew mine was spot on (on my Honda CM400e) so we took a diversion, and as fate would have it, my speedometer cable broke, before we could match speed. So much for that experiment. Anyway, if there was nothing wrong with his speedometer, he said we were doing 80mph at one point on a small rural road. oops. Didn't seem we were going that fast. Actually, that little 400 is a very capable little bike. Still not sure if I should fix mine up, has developed a big oil leak. Was a fun little bike to ride, so, maybe, eventually. Doesn't take up much space...

Don't get me wrong ZR I didn't post that link as a "don't do biking" propaganda, but rather it was a mate who had a very bad accident and got on the telly. And yes statistically Horse riding is more dangerous! In fact the girl featured in the episode I showed was a horseriding accident. I totally support freedom of the human to live their life. My decision to stop is because I concluded it was time for me to stop, and I am not saying I will never change my mind. What harm would at least getting your 400 running do?

I get it and it seems this might be an excuse for an upgrade? I do try to be smarter and safer than when I was younger. Helmets and such, both on horses and bikes. With my aging horses and work hours, haven't really ridden them in quite some time. So, the bike is kind of filling that spot. As for the 400e, it's 35 years old, so an overhaul was going to happen eventually. It wasn't sparkling perfect when I bought it, but it's not bad, so probably worth getting running. OK, and it was a fun little bike to ride. On the other hand, sadly, it's probably worth more in parts! Nothing I'm going to worry about this time of year.

I get it and it seems this might be an excuse for an upgrade? Sorry, not at all just saying, that things may change, that's life, not planning or hoping for a change of heart, but not ruling out. Was pondering in the car today, whether to invest in a classic with the proceeds of the Tiger, maybe something like: www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C808107Just a thought

I understand the difficulty SC - but as you say you've had luck on your side... a single moment of the other kind of luck could change your life forever.... having said that, bad luck can screw up our lives, on a bike or on the sofa... risk and danger comes witb every breath - only you know what you can live with. BTW what was the route? - all looked maddingly familiar.

The route was from The Hop Farm, through to Yalding, to Hunton up Hunton Hill to Dean Street and Coxheath on the left. The clip goes to the outskirts of Yalding village and restarts leaving Hunton. Might just need to enlarge the map Attachment Deleted
