WOMADers will find way to celebrate that weekend with music and some with camping. Peter does not have to bend to anyone's will in this matter. He certainly does not have to respond to bullies. You are very aggressive for someone who does so much yoga. You have the gall to say say that customers who don't agree with Bollix to Brexit and Extinction Rebellion should stop coming to WOMAD and accuse others of bullying. WOMAD doesn't stand for World of Authoritarianism and Political Intolerance. WOMADers have booked the weekend off and will go to other festivals that are going ahead on the same weekend unless WOMAD can convince them not to. Re-running a recording of a vintage WOMAD might persuade them to enjoy this recording at home or in campsites where they are allowed to barbecue. Many punters will try other festivals they have fancied the look of if WOMAD don't give them a reason not to go and WOMAD customers have until the end of September to get their WOMAD tickets refunded.

So, you post a post, projecting your bullying personality onto me and WOMAD? As it is, you have been screaming at WOMAD to do what they did last year. Something, that is a no brainer that they will be doing. Perhaps to stoke your ego, "Look I told them they should do this that and the other, and now they are doing it!" Look how important I am. Now, you act like they are forcing you to stay home and watch WOMAD at Home? They are not. If people have other festivals they can attend that weekend, they are free to do so. WOMAD likely won't mind, after all, they are not going to have one this year. No one from WOMAD is forcing anyone to do anything. WOMAD, really, really wanted to go on this year, but with surges in cases of Covid and unsure if their festival was going to get the go ahead, they have done the responsible thing of cancelling the festival. I feel for your disappointment, but lashing out at everyone and everything in your frustration that the world doesn't revolve around you, won't change the situation. People have two months to decide whether they want to roll over their tickets or get a refund. That's ample time for someone to make a decision. If they get a refund, then later find they can go next year, they will be able to purchase tickets then. From what I gather here, most will rollover their tickets again. If you decide you like another festival the same weekend better, you are free to make that decision yourself.

Womad should at least pay to stream Radio Womad from a vintage weekend free of charge to listeners so disappointed punters can listen to it at home, in a campsite or in their second homes. I think the executive team at Womad could manage to fund that if they gave up a little of their generous salaries but if it tippped them into hardship, they could always scrounge the funding from Peter Gabriel. For someone who has a dislike of guardian readers claiming they are telling everyone else what they should be doing, you are very quick to tell Peter Gabriel how he should be spending his money (to please you) or that the Womad staff should take a pay cut to fund a service (to please you). I am sure Womad will put on plenty of radio and ‘on-line’ material over the weekend but need to appreciate this will be done as goodwill for all the disappointed punters. With tickets rolled forward or refunds paid out, this will be given for free (although donations may be requested).

Currygoat, amongst all this claptrap you've posted, there's one pearl of wisdom which is absolutely spot on.
"WOMAD doesn't stand for World of Authoritarianism and Political Intolerance."
Correct!
If it did, then it wouldn't be WOMAD. It would be called something like WAPI. Which it isn't.

www.bbc.com/news/uk-57809691lBoris has officially stated the end of Covid restrictions for July 19th. Day late and a dollar (pound) short for WOMAD. That said, I have a gut feeling that cancelling WOMAD this year was still not a bad idea, even if it was disappointing.

I know 2 people, one aged 68 and a young teacher both have covid after being double jabbed, the older guy is really very ill, the younger one got it from an anti vaxxer who unknowingly passed it on. The Delta variation seems to be more effective at evading the vaccine, so with the infections doubling every week, albeit in the younger age groups, Womad might have had a number of customers arriving incubating the virus. This may occur at the test events and make for interesting results esp as it coincides with BJ letting it run free.
As you say Zenrider may be no festival will be seen as sensible.

I think few people understand that if there are a lot of Covid cases around, then your exposure is much higher and even if you are double vaccinated you are likely to catch it. Even the government recognises we will see daily cases above 100k before long. The idea now seems to be that people will usually not be seriously ill, making Covid more like flu. But I am not sure that works for vulnerable people, and Johnson may well be accused of genocide in months to come. The next vaccination program needs to work and that means compulsory vaccination for everyone (other than for health reasons).

It is another reason why it is just plain stupid to scrap the measures in place (mask wearing and social distancing) which have become almost routine.

Radio WOMAD did a short test broadcast the other day...... Said it was just a test, mention plans but wouldn't promise anything Fingers crossed Shame they couldn't play archive recordings of vintage WOMADs Thursday through to Monday every weekend of the Summer and match the weather conditions from each festival to the weather forecasts now. This weekend's vintage replay would have been from a year where Thursday and Friday were blazing but Saturday and Sunday were rainy.
