Hello beef and olirow, thank you for welcoming me to the forum! I'm looking forward to discussing all things Womad in the build up to 2025's festival! Beef - Sorry to hear you haven't been able to attend Womad recently. I hope next you're able to go again soon! What would you say was your highlight from the 25 years you attended for? Olirow - glad to hear you also enjoyed the Spanish numbers group! I was worried that the audience was a little small to begin with but I think it built throughout (it was hard to tell after a while as I was quite near the front). I rarely saw the Siam full during this year's Womad, which I thought was unusual! ... good question Jessica... that's a lot of years, music and memories... you've got me thinking... I will post my reply when I've done something with the ever-growing list your question has prompted in my head... And yes, in my not-so-recent experience, usually the Siam is packed at least at peak Fri, Sat and Sunday evening times. Was the lineup not so great or the overall numbers down? Either way (or maybe both ways) not a good thing.

Hello, I’m new to the forum - having left Facebook, I found the only thing I missed about social media was the WOMAD community group so hoping to join the WOMAD chat on here. VERY late review of some of my highlights from this year: 4132314 - I really wanted to see both Ndox Electrique and this group and I struggled to decide which to go for. In the end I chose 4132314, with the plan that I’d head over to Charlie Gillet halfway through if I wasn’t sure about it. I’m so glad I chose them though as it was the highlight of the whole weekend for me! From the moment they started pulling wool through their instruments, I was mesmerised! An array of instruments all built into this huge table that they all stood around, with polyphonic singing, drumming that built up the rhythms in a hypnotic way. I think I didn’t stop smiling throughout the whole performance. At the end quite a few people just stayed in the tent - completely blown away. And when they came out to collect their strange assortment of instruments, they were met with huge cheers again! Soema Montenegro - absolutely magical atmosphere at Ecotricity stage late night. She has an incredible voice, stage presence and the whole performance has the feeling of drama and mystery, with the addition of several upbeat songs to dance to at the end. One of her songs was so catchy that it kept me awake that night! I've been enjoying her album a lot of over the last month or so. Did anyone else see these artists? I also really enjoyed Faiz Ali Faiz, Duo ruut, and Islandman. re survey, I am a bit worried about the idea of Womad struggling - I thought some of the questions in the survey were troubling! Welcome to the board Jessica. I love hearing peoples reviews of the festival so thank you for sharing yours. I've posted mine previously but can't remember what I put. I didn't see much of what you did by the sounds of it no doubt by that old enemy of festivals - the clashes! But I did see Duo Ruut. They were enjoyable . If memory serves they were the Estonians with the zither?

Either way (or maybe both ways) not a good thing. Sorry for the delay in my response! I would say the line-up was just as good as usual (if not better!) but that the crowd seemed spread thin across the site. I am not sure whether Mollys having more high profile bands was taking too much of a crowd out of the arena, or whether the overall numbers were down. Weirdly, it felt really busy walking around the campsite. And it was always busy at Ecotricity, but the stages in the main arena felt less populated than usual. I do tend to watch the weirder things so don't overlap with the big crowds - but even so, I thought it was odd!

If memory serves they were the Estonians with the zither? Hello! Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed my review. I do like reading about other people's Womads too. Yes Duo Ruut were the two ladies with the zither. Really beautiful music! I actually think they would have been better in the evening as it might have been very atmospheric listening to that in the dark. The Estonian folk at Womad has been some of the most exciting music at the festival over the last few years. Did anyone see Mari Kalkun, or Puuluup? I was at the Darbar festival of Indian classical music at the Barbican last weekend. It was good, but it did make me miss the Womad!! Only 9 months or so to go I suppose!
