Picked up a ticket for Peter Gabriel in Manchester (June 23rd 2023) yesterday. One big advantage of working from home seems to be seeing the email about pre-sales 2 hours before the pre-sale started, rather than 6 hours after

My ambitious plan to see both Cambridge United lose the local derby against Peterborough United (first in over 20 years) without getting beaten up AND watch Souad Massi at the Barbican actually came off (largely because the concert was delayed by half an hour). Souad was brilliant, much more uptempo than I remember, and had everyone dancing (albeit some remained in their seats, but they were dancing in their own way:)). Justin Adams turned up for a few songs, he gets around doesn't he? Not sure what I really think of him to be honest. Any views? Yes Olirow. I sort of know what you mean. There’s been a lot of hoo ha like the promotion of JA’s collaboration with the Italian guy. They played at Musicport in 2021 and it wasn’t my cuppa tea. He played the Songlines gig recently; did anyone on here go ? I would have liked to see Suzana Baca but she was scrubbed from the line up.

Working from home, like retirement, does have its advantages 😁 The locations are not so convenient for me (Bristol needs to pull its fingers out and build its new Arena), so pinning my hopes on PG wanting to add Womad to the schedule. Going by how excited the youngsters standing by me were, just seeing him step out on stage this year, he will have a very large crowd of all ages.

I guess the line up must have been a bit fluid. Was Youssou N'Dour ever on it? He wasn't by the time I had spotted the gig but on the day they behaved as if he was expected to play suggesting the only reason he wasn't there was because he'd been called to a meeting with the Senegalese president the day before. They even played a short video from him. Weird really, if he had been expected, the venue would surely have been full and it really wasn't.

Well, I have the vacation time to go to Bonnaroo, but still on the fence whether I'll go.

There’s a few big gigs I would like to have seen recently but I have been put off by the chaos of the ticketing system. I would like to have seen Bob again. He’s been with me all my life, at least since I was sixteen. Also , First Aid Kit have been touring. Glasgow tickets were priced around £35 face value, but when I looked I saw that they were more like £80 resale! Wtf. Is it some kind of scam ? The whole system has left me with no confidence in ticket sales so I’ll just go to the pub. Incidentally, my local jam night pub is still doing proper hand drawn beer at £2.50. Check out ‘the Limeburner’s’ fb page. Don’t forget the apostrophe xx

Lovely gig last night at the fabulous Bowerhouse to see the duo Lucy Farrell (Accoustic guitar and vocals) and Andrew Waite (accordion and currently nominated for musician of the year at the Scots trad award! )

Well, I did it. I just spent a fortune to go to Bonnaroo next year. I don't think I'm going to make this an annual trip, or at least not the way I'm doing it this coming year with the electrical option in the RV area. At my age and up, General Access plus would likely be routine for the nicer AC bathrooms. I don't have to buy air fare, so figured why not? Now to get my truck and camper road worthy by then. So, anyone care to join me? It seems people can move freely through most of the general camping areas. So, if you would prefer your own spot with a tent somewhere OK, though we could end up quite far apart. With my little camper I could support tents that can fit in about 20 or so feet by 20 feet of the space my truck won't be taking up in the RV area. Just saying. Or you can get a park and camp site for your rental car. Or you could get a walk in site. Or you could go all out with glamping that are at YIKES prices. They do have a 2 person souvenir tent option to take home or donate at the end of the festival. BTW, I get it if it's not in anyone's budget to do, but I can hope, can't I? Not sure if it's in mine, but well, too late now. One warning, prices do not include taxes and fees, and they are quite hefty. Really, hate when they do that. Should be included in the upfront price, if you ask me.

I find out on the 10th the lineup for Bonnaroo. At least, they don't mess around when it comes to that.

OK, the main lineup is posted and it seems more will be added. Not the world wide music of WOMAD, but a diverse amount of music. Thankfully, there are a lot of bands I do like, and who knows, maybe I'll find some new bands to like as well. Hopefully, I won't run into too many conflicts. www.bonnaroo.com/lineup

The Beths (from Australia) are great, were recommended to me by ‘Big Jeff’ a couple of years ago. on the Thursday there is CVC (Church Valley Collective) from South Wales who were awesome when I saw them in Cardiff at Swn festival in October. Earlier in the year they were playing smaller village venues, so really impressed that they are now making it in the US

That is the one thing about these festivals, it's a good way to see a lot of bands you've wanted to see live in a short amount of time. Listening to Chicago's WXRT I've probably heard more of these bands than others going to the festival will have. Fleet Foxes are on my radar. As are Potugal The Man, Rainbow Kitten Surprise for sure. I think Sheryl Crow is the only one I have seen live before, and seems bar any conflicts, I will again. I may not listen to his music so much, but I hear Lil Nas puts on a good show. Of course, from some of the more well known names Marcus Mumford, The Revivalists, Pixies, and of course the Foo Fighters. Thanks for giving me The Beths and Ezra Furman to check out. There are some that sound like I should know them, but maybe not? Even so, some I may know I may pass on if there are conflicts. Otherwise, plan to take the wander around approach when time allows, and listen to a little of everything, when possible. Should be interesting I'm sure. I think I'd be more excited if you were all going to be there.

Adding My Morning Jacket to the list of knowns. They haven't confirmed the dates yet, but the Chicago Blues Festival should be the weekend before Bonnaroo.
