Happen to be in the US, but no shows near me. That is a shame and you were the reason I posted the link. βΉοΈ Appreciate that. The closest is tomorrow, about 3 and a half hours away, I will be working. Their weekends concerts are way too far away as well, more like 12 hours or more. Much more for all the ones on the West Coast. As it is, seems they have been to Chicago several times earlier this year. Which makes sense as there is an area in Chicago called Ukrainian Village. As long as the war is continuing, it's likely they will make it to Chicago again in the future. The question will be, whether I can make it or not.

I'm off to the Hidden Notes festival in Stroud this weekend. Ambient, contemporary classical sort of stuff. Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead is playing, also Penguin Cafe and Erland Cooper (who played Womad a few years back).

Next gig is tomorrow... Steve Hackett at the Sunny Buxton Opera House! When the tour was announced (some time ago), I hadn't spotted the Buxton date and was all set to go to Manchester Apollo again... then saw it and camped on the event page on the Opera House website until the tickets went on sale and got a front row seat (just off centre)

Went to see Penguin Cafe last night at The Gulbenkian Theatre, Canterbury. Absolutely fantastically beautiful evening of highly professional musicians, gorgeous β€οΈ

Del has 3 Vintage Caravan gigs at the end of October, Glasgow, Newcastle and Manchester.
He planning to let the train take some of the strain, hopefully they won't be on strike that weekend.

Needed something something to go to on the 18th, London too far so Rachel, my Womad freind, suggested Steeleye Span at the Cheese & Grain in Frome. Dissapointed because they have become folk rock, in part I feel because Maddie's wonderful voice of old has lost it's power, replaced by guitar led rocky ballads. Faded glory. The day was still worth it for the colours on the way up, coffee in a converted church/ art gallery and an authetic Tebetan meal that would have out done Manic Organic, cheaper too!

My ambitious plan to see both Cambridge United lose the local derby against Peterborough United (first in over 20 years) without getting beaten up AND watch Souad Massi at the Barbican actually came off (largely because the concert was delayed by half an hour).
Souad was brilliant, much more uptempo than I remember, and had everyone dancing (albeit some remained in their seats, but they were dancing in their own way:)). Justin Adams turned up for a few songs, he gets around doesn't he? Not sure what I really think of him to be honest. Any views?

Glad to hear about both of your achievements olirow... football is really not my thing and I'm amazed what people put themselves through to watch it. Justin Adams? I've seen him with various bands at Womad over the years, and even just wandering around there when he's not part of a lineup... he seems to be omnipresent, a bit like Johnny Calsi. I know what you mean (I think) - I have an unresolvable question about authenticity in so-called world music. I guess the same question hangs over much appropriated music... Rolling Stones? Robert Plant? The list is probably a long one. I like it, but I am not convinced.

Well that's just it about Adams, I feel he sometimes takes the edge off the musician he is playing with and the result is a sort of rock fusion. And I don't particularly like that sort of rock music. Plus he is a guitarist so not really bringing anything new to the party. Plus he struts around throwing poses like some aging rockstar which often feels totally out of place. It seems like he gets more out of it than he is putting in, so good for him, maybe less so for everyone else. Someone please tell me why I am wrong.
PS just seen that he was even playing at mini Musicport ffs.

Don't think he used to be like that (Ghostland 1998, Wayward Sheiks 2001)... perhaps it was the Robert Plant influence... he's been practicing in front of the mirror in his bedroom...

It was absolutely fantastic despite the slightly frustrating delay. I wasn't dancing ,I was up in the middle tier so might have been frowned upon . I didn't even realize Justin Adams turned up. I am "little bit" of a fan and quite enjoyed him in Juju and Strange Sensation with Robert Plant. I actually slightly preferred Souad's more mellow moments but then I'm a fan of fado. I would like to have heard a little more of the Spanish guitar. Not complaining, I will definitely check out the album at some point. Mention to Cerys Matthews who plugged the gig on her show which made me buy a ticket To add, I thought the support act was superb too. Her name escapes me now but probably ranks as one of my favourite support acts I've seen. Unusual to see a full band but they are based in London so not far to go. Β£25 for ticket price did seem quite cheap for such a fantastic night out. It seemed to be a sell out

So tonight I have managed to wriggle away from home and I am at the Songlines Music Awards 2022 at Scala in Kings Cross. Not being a Songlines subscriber I know little about these awards, not even who is in the running. However, Cerys Matthews is hosting and Fanfare Ciocarlia are headlining so it promises to be a lively evening.
However, there seems to be a misprint in the line up because it says that Justin Adams is playing. Given it must be impossible for one person to turn up in so many different places, I am assuming that it will be an Abba style hologram if he is there at all.
