Managed to go to a couple of gigs recently: Tankus the Henge at Malmesbury Town Hall, they were great fun, apparently they played at Mollys Bar a few years ago The Unthanks at Bradford on Avon - this was a one-off gig as a 'rehearsal' on their way to their appearance at Glastonbury. Sublime

Last week we were in Athens for a family wedding and Herbie Hancock was in town playing the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, (Greek Amphitheatre), the venue was first opened in 161AD and recently refurbished in 1953 Herbie was playing on a night we had no commitments, well it would have been rude not to go. Utterly brilliant gig, and such an awesome venue, sitting in the same place that almost 2,000 years ago people also sat and listened to music, under the same massive night sky, the same view over Athens, with 5,000 other music lovers, we are all one family

To be honest, we booked the tickets for Herbie Hancock before we'd booked the flights and we built the break around the wedding celebration and the gig ....we almost stayed a few extra days to see Kraftwerk play the same venue also! www.viva.gr/tickets/music/kraftwerk-en/

BCUC in Tunbridge Wells Forum tonight. I never managed to see them either at Womad or Musicport so quite looking forward to it. Whether Tunbridge Wells is quite ready for this type of band is another question, it's pretty sparse so far, but hopefully will fill up a bit. Transglobal Underground played here a few weeks back, which I managed to miss, and hoping we get to see more of the same ilk in the future.

Also recommend them to my niece at We Out There festival and she said they were one of her favourites of the weekend. Hope you enjoyed them last night (even if the crowd was not fully packed - they need a good crowd to really appreciate them) and that this a cultural awakening for more good music at Tunbridge Wells.

Hi Mikey, they were excellent last night, gave it their all, and the crowd responded. There could have been more people but enough to create a decent atmosphere, the Forum has been the best local venue for some time now, but not really given a platform to world music before, so hopefully that will change.

Next gig starts tomorrow. Green Man festival with a Monday ‘settlers’ pre festival camp. Music and other entertainment each evening until the full festival kicks off on Thursday afternoon. This includes the welsh poet and author Owen Shiers (he wrote the book resistance, made into a film featuring Michael Sheen) with his own band. Should be good and will be a fabulous week.

Excellent memories, if I could have attended an outside gig it would have been U2 at Red Rocks back in 83, there is something magical about these awesome venues.

I missed out on Womad due to illness, just as well as many people were ill with a virus, but I'm hoping to go to Purbeck Folk Festival, we have tickets. A small festival with an eclectic mix of music and very reasonably priced in a wonderful setting.
