I missed out on Womad due to illness, just as well as many people were ill with a virus, but I'm hoping to go to Purbeck Folk Festival, we have tickets. A small festival with an eclectic mix of music and very reasonably priced in a wonderful setting. Sorry to hear about missing Womad DT - that's really unlucky timing - hope you have a great time at Purbeck.

Son Rompe Pera at the Jazz Cafe tonight... I saw a rare UK Nits gig there a few years ago and I thought the combination of dining (for those seated upstairs) while being at a gig was a bit weird... downstairs standing was great though...

My first time here, and it's packed. Not that easy to get in far enough to see how the dining works, suffice to say that I am happy to be standing (although turning up in sandals may turn out to be a poor decision...)

We are off to Purbeck this weekend as well - our favourite festival. See you there, Desert Traveller! Saw Steve loads of times, the guys let me in thro' the disabled access, which was a real help in getting to and from the Fire Stage,- none of this corporate speak, 'no wristband no access'. Someone else could see I was having trouble putting up my tent on my own in the wind so gave me a hand and when my car battery died, someone got a jump starter pack from Swanage for me. Oh, and the music, well its a small festival, 1 big & 3 smaller stages, half the price of Womad, what can you expect? HOWEVER, it really delivered disproportionately well in fact, eg. the new Music from Seth Lakeman reminded me of Steve Earle- Copperhead Road. Another act a mix of Senegalese and Swedish with a kora, the chap reminded me of the Wonderful late Geoffrey Omyrema; Womad you missed this wonderful duo. A Purbeck highlight for both Rachel & me. Oh and the campsite had a bank of flush toilets each with a basin with hot water and an electric hand dryer. The separate covered outside washing area had one basin with hot water. Showers too. Womad if you are reading this....... I thinks it's possible we will be back!

Didn’t bump into you, Desert Traveller, but I didn’t get to much music due to photography duties. Injured my hip on first day so struggled a bit. But I agree with all you say. Purbeck punches high above its weight. It as wonderful festival, really really friendly and accodating. A family festival run by a family. The Swedish/Senegal act you saw were Sousou and Maher Cissoko and they were brilliant. Although they call it a Folk Festival they are getting more and more World Music.

Like you I struggled with mobility due to a spine issue. I didn't get to see the fire show because of that but I did see something Womad could instigate in 2024, the Showcase Final. Five new groups played 4 numbers each and the crowd voted on who they wanted to see doing a full set next year; a good way to spend the Sat. morning. My next gig- Barney Morse Brown (Duotone) in Bath on the 8th

I am sure I remember Womad doing something along the lines of Purbeck Rising years ago, probably 2009/2010. I don’t know how they ran it though, it was just the winners who performed at the festival. Purbeck Rising is excellent - they have helped a lot of great new talent get discovered

DakhaBrakha are touring the UK in January
Del has a ticket for their Manchester gig and we've got tickets for their Glasgow gig too.
Their web site doesn't have list the uk gigs but there due to play Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow and Brighton. There are a few gaps in the tour dates so we expect more dates will be announced.

Went to see Seth Lakeman and Jon Boden plus others at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill last night. They were billed as singing sea shanties although I think it would be more accurate to say they were songs about the sea. It was fun, not the most brilliant gig I have been to, but a nice chilled experience.
I have never seen a gig at the De La Warr before, although I have been to art exhibitions there. It reminded me a bit of Whitby Pavilion (home of Musicport) being bang on the coast overlooking the sea with a similar decent if slightly tired theatre on site. Being all seated, it didn't make for the best atmosphere, but it was fine. They have some decent gigs coming up, Stornoway in November for example (although didn't they play their last ever gig at Womad last year?), so I might go again.

Just added Steve Hackett and his band at the Copernicus Center in Chicago, in November, good thing I'm on vacation/holiday, or I might have had to miss it. Came in late, but got a decent seat anyway. Good thing I heard an advertisement for it on the radio (WXRT). Really, need to check my emails more often. He's revisiting Foxtrot, plus some of his own stuff. I usually run into some of the old PG forum people at his concerts, so hopefully that will be true this time too. With Kate Bush being inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame, had been tempted to go to the induction ceremony this year, but just can't justify spending that much money. Had fun the year I went for Peter's induction, but there was a good group of us from the old PG official forum that went, so made it much more fun, and harder to resist. Since, I'm a bit out of touch with them, not sure if any are going or not for Kate. Must say, it was fun seeing the unedited version of the induction, and hearing all the songs everyone played (5 songs), even some of the lengthy acceptance speeches, and not the edited HBO version (3 songs). However, not a cheap trip, especially since it's in New York this year. Now, if it had been in Cincinnati, that might have been more tempting. Not nearly as far to travel, and a little less expensive.

Tomorrow night I am seeing Brighde Chaimbeul at the Ropetackle Arts Centre in Shoreham.
She plays the bagpipes. I have no idea what to expect. Quite excited though:)

I am seeing Brighde Chaimbeul too, this weekend. Bring on the bagpipes!
She's in the lineup of the Hidden Notes festival which is on in Stroud this weekend. It's an opportunity to hear some stuff which is a little different. The only other artist I'm familiar with is Hannah Peel, who performed at Womad a few years ago.
