Lovely evening last Friday up the Roundhouse with friends for the Simon Emmerson memorial gig, Imagined Village, Afro Celt Sound System, Billy Bragg, Martin and Eliza Carthy, Working Week, Snowboy, Gilles Peterson, The Copper Family, DJ Chris Tofu Fabulous venue, amazed that somehow I'd never before managed to see a gig at the Roundhouse before! Sadly we left early (A bit after 10) as my arthritic knees were playing merry hell. But I think we only missed The Copper Family, Snowboy and DJ Chris Tofu. Lovely gig, fantastic venue, sadly only about half full Great line up is a fitting tribute to Simon Emerson. I hadn't seen it advertised... but then again I haven't looked out for gigs in such a while. Hope your knees have recovered SC.

Great gig on Saturday. Loads of tribal singing, Maidstone United FC vs Stevenage in the FA Cup 3rd Round. Stevenage were 3 leagues higher than us and 69 places higher. Bit 90 odd minutes of pride, refusal to be intimidated and gutsy effort, and 4 hours of raucous loud constant crowd support/singing and David defeated Galiath BBC News - Maidstone United 1-0 Stevenage: Sixth-tier Stones stun League One side to reach FA Cup fourth round www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67894600

Del will be kicking off his 2024 gigs with dakhabrakha In Manchester (weather permitting)
2 nights later Cal will be joining Del at Celtic Connections to see dakhabrakha in Glasgow, Cal and Del then have Gregg Lawson (he of the Grit Orchestra) and The Breath, before Del heads off to see Fatoumata Diawara (Cal was thinking about joining him but the venue isn't the best so she decided to wait to see her at WOMAD (fingers crossed))

It's dakhabrakha in Manchester day (they are playing a few other dates around the UK, but some may be sold out).
Del is letting the train take the strain and thankfully there's no snow but it's freezing so fingers crossed all goes well.

This Saturday we're trundling over to Ipswich for a wonderfull gig.
Ipswich vs Maidstone FA Cup 4th Round. Maidstone, our small friendly club from the Southern league takes on Ipswich currently 2nd in the Champianship League. 4 Divisions and 98 places above us! Whatever the result, it's an amazing gig for Maidstone, the players, the club, the supporters and anyone that loves an underdog.
A Maidstone Supporter ticket for the game is like gold!
Also the gig will be broadcast live on BBC1 kickoff 12:30, if you watch be kind, Maidstone are only a semi professional team most/some players having normal jobs but they do practice 3 mornings a week!

we also saw Gregg Lawson (he of the Grit Orchestra) talk about and play his violin (lev's violin). While it may not have been made by a famous maker it has a long history and a wonderful sound.
After the show we also manage to say hello to Gregg and have a very quick chat, Gregg told us there are plans afoot for few Martyn Bennett based show next year as it will be 20 years since his passing. There will be some collaboration with real world records and possibly a certain gentle man who's involved with RWR and Womad.........

Sensational win! You must be having a fantastic time:) It's what supporting your local team is all about, these moments only happen very occasionally but it feels wonderful when they do. Going up to see my team Cambridge United beat 'the world's richest team ' (Newcastle United) a couple of years ago was a brilliant day out. Enjoy!

Jealous of CalnDel seeing dakhabrakha again. Tried to get tickets for myself and my Niece to see them in a smaller venue in Bristol but sadly left it too late and no success going on the waiting list (normally a good thing to do rather than give up completely). As Lankum at the newly refurbished Bristol Beacon. Fantastic Irish folk who would be good at Womad. The Beacon (let’s forget the old name, shall we 😁) is fantastic, nice big venue with amazing sound . Attachments:
