Saw the amazingly talented Bill Ryder Jones last night in Bristol. Also managing to find music in smaller local venues which is good to support. Discovered a great new band callled Bramwell, came all the way from Torquay to play to a crowd of around 50 people in Newnham on Severn.

Just home from a great night at The Forum, Tunbridge Wells seeing The John Martyn Project. Absolutely brilliant, such a talented band having such fun. At one point the power failed on their instruments and equipment, so they quickly rearranged to acoustic only with the crowd singing along happily. Then with power fixed, thundered into great finishing tracks.
I never considered myself a John Martyn fan, but tonight I've been converted into at the very least a John Martyn Project fan.

An excellent gig last night from The Gavin Bryars Ensemble (with Gavin Bryars playing) at Canterbury Cathedral, a celebration of his 80th birthday. Fabulous venue and acoustics! 3 pieces were played: The Flower of Friendship The Sinking of the Titanic and Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me (yet) Outstanding piece was The Sinking of the Titanic - absolutely awesome ๐๐๐๐๐ Jesus' Blood went on a bit, the LP version of the track is 26 mins, tape version 60 mins and CD version 72 mins but tonight's was around 35 mins long, so relatively short but, folk started shuffling in chairs and occasional murmers could be heard, perhaps 25 mins would have done the job A darn fine evening and a good cause as there were collections for PorchLight โค๏ธ

Del went to see the Hives in the Barrowland, it was great gig but he managed to raise the average age of the mosh pit by 50%
It was a great gig and the hives are one of the best live bands Del has seen. It also reminded Del of his teenage years going to thrash metal gigs as these were packed with teenagers soaking up this new form of music.
A few day's ago Del and some mates when to see Blind Guardian, the band were great but the venue was poor (bad sound, lighting, small stage, concrete floor and a shorten setlist thanks to a venue imposed curfew).
Next up for Del is the Glasgow Coffee festival and hopefully Hayseed Dixie

Back to the Ropetackle Arts Centre in Shoreham for the second time, this time to see Genticorum, a Quรฉbรฉcois folk band, a slightly more mellow Le Vent de Nord. It's all good, I like this sort of music, and quite a few of the good folk of Shoreham are here and seem to be enjoying it too:)

Just back from a touring holiday of the North, Scotland and Orkney. Whilst in Orkney the Orkney Folk Festival was on, and it would have been rude not to pop in So we did the Friday of hhe festival. Firstly attending a talk by Margaret Bennett, sharing memories and recording of Martyn, fabulous talk with many of thexaudience being friends, mentors, teachers, colleagues of Martyn. Then in the evening enjoyed: RANT Genticorum Martin O'connor, Cathal Hayden and Seamie O'Dowd Saltfishforty and Hadhirgaan A lovely day, beautiful location and extraordinarily friendly people

Nice one SC, and great timing too. Always wanted to get to the Orkney Islands, never made it yet. But I am going to Harris and Lewis next week, can't wait! If my timing was better my visit could have coincided with HebCelt festival, and I could have seen Genticorum again. So they are certainly getting around, which is nice to see.

Bought a ticket to go and see Yungchen Lhamo this Saturday in Bray. At Womad she'll clash with John Metcalfe and Soema Montenegro. I am a longtime Yungchen fan so may as well go and see her at her own show, and see one of the others at the festival.

Purbeck Valley Folk Festival next week.
Salif Keita and Homeland Band performing having missed them at WOMAD due to clash with Genticorum.
Le Vent Du Nord another if the headliners.
I'm bit intrigued that I see advertising boards up at WOMAD for this festival, not sure if there is some sort of connection between the two

Green man from Monday. Hope the weather will be as good as the Womad weekend. Going to what is called Settlers, chance to chill in the welsh mountains with welsh bands booked to play in the evening (pleased that Water Pistol will be playing), before the full festival starts on the Thursday. Looking forward to seeing Hurray for the Riff Raff and Nadine Shah amongst many others

Trundled up to Manchester, met up with Nigenet and went to see Eivor supported by Sylvaine at the Manchester Accademy 2.
Fabulous Fabulous gig, Sylvaine, is definitely worth checking out and Eivor was utterly spell binding, such a voice, such a master. At times it felt as though Kate Bush and Enya had got jiggy at a party and the resulting love child was Eivor.
An utterly awesome gig
